From the WW II Memorial Register of Remembrance, for S/Sgt. Clarence A. (Andy) Flatt, who was killed in action on Okinawa.

   At the final Reunion of the first 96th Division Association in Washington, D.C., I learned that most of the men in my unit had heard of my close encounter when a sniper shot the telephone out of my hand while I was calling back fire orders from the O.P.  But no one knew of the heroic and unselfuswh dedication to duty dsiplayed by S/Sgt. Flatt.
